Borders Goes Out of Business: Many Authors To Benefit
August 8th, 2011 // 11:59 am @ M.H. Nicholas
I know it’s a tough world for an author. Without Borders telling customers which books to consider, authors are better able to use their skills and tools to make themselves relevant. The author is better able to adapt. You can embrace ebooks, build relationships, sign books and compete however you want. Borders cost the average author with lower orders on the front end and returns on the back. Net net, I see the Borders’ failure as moving folks back toward level playing fields where I get to fight this out on a much fairer battlefield.

On Being an Author: An Introduction

The act of being an author is one of the most fulfilling things that anyone could do. I would encourage people with something to add to the discourse to grab a laptop and get to writing. The complexity, however, is that the world is filled to the brim with words – nearly impossible to distinguish between meaningful and meaningless ones, never mind so impossible as to identify the content that will actually help in even some most menial fashion.
